Enjoy Festive Meals (while staying fit!)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Bring on the turkey and candied cranberries! Oh, and don’t forget the hot apple cider, spiced up with some cinnamon sticks.

Now we are all aware how this dance is going to play out. We get invited to 10 different Christmas dinners and get hyped up over all those delicious festive meals. And then we get the Itis. That sleepy feeling of lethargy after eating a huge but satisfying meal? Yep, that’s Itis, my friend. And then we see the aftermath.

You know what I’m talking about. Those extra pounds that crept out of nowhere!

But fear not. We’ve compiled a list of easy ways to stay fit while indulging in healthy Christmas themed recipes. What, you say? You mean to tell me that Meal in a Jar has found a way to have my eggnog AND drink it too?! Yes, yes we have. You’re welcome.

Roasted Salmon with Crispy Potatoes and Broccoli

Substitute the traditional favourites like ham and chicken for some omega-3 fats. Salmon is a great alternative as it’s a high-quality protein that has Vitamin B12 and potassium. VB12 is a nutrient that keeps the body’s blood cells and nerves healthy. Potassium works with the electrolytes to regulate the proper amount of fluids in your body. Which you’ll consume a lot of when you attend those office Christmas parties.

Our stay-fit tip? Eat before heading out. We know how tempting it is to go hungry all day to “make room” for all that food you’re going to eat for dinner. But by eating a small meal a few hours before that holiday party, you reduce the temptation to overindulge. Remember, do NOT skip meals, especially breakfast!

Butternut Squash & Green Lentil Curry

Spice things up by taking an Indian dish, then turning it into a vegan and gluten-free Christmas spectacle! Healthy meets comfort food. Roast the squash with the curry and add some mushrooms to balance the sweetness. This dish is full of protein, potassium, vitamins and the lentils make it a very filling meal.

The holidays are all about partying with friends and family, but when you’re not living life on the dance floor, you might find yourself sinking into that soft sofa. Remember our good friend, Itis? Walk around here and there, stretch your limbs, stay active in some way. Just don’t sit still!

Spiced Mexican Hot Chocolate

If you’re going to go all out with the Christmas drinks, then you have to try this new hot cocoa. Pro tip, you can find dulce de leche over at Bulk Barn. Cozy up in a blanket by the fireplace and sip on some cocoa while spending quality time with family and friends.

With that being said, remember to drink in moderation! Alcohol, carbonated drinks, and other juices are the culprits behind all those consumed calories!

Looking for an easier way to stay healthy over the break? Try our holiday-themed Festivus jar. Enjoy layers of turkey, dried cranberries, sweet potatoes at under 500 calories. This jar will get you ready for the feats of strength after sitting through the airing of grievances
