With summer long gone, you're probably finding that the days are colder, shorter, dimmer and wetter. As a result, you might find yourself down in the dumps and not motivated to get s#!t done. Personally, I get myself pumped to do things by writing amazing blogs, which you love reading, putting in my earbuds and play some tasty jams. My go-to tunes are anything by NOFX, Rancid or Bad Religion.
But everyone has their own ritual to get motivated. Our Business Development Manager, Neera, likes to start her day with a little bit of Reddit in the morning with her coffee. She glances over the Get Motivated thread right before heading off to her favourite place in the world, Meal in a Jar. You'll find motivational gems like this one on this thread.
You might not be an avid Redditor, but here are some daily activities you can do to get yourself motivated:
Here's the Oxford English Dictionary definition of inspiration. (mass noun)The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. Read blogs (like this one), books, magazines or even textbooks (you do you). Read about your idol, someone you look up to, and read their success stories. Or someone who's in the same position as you. One person who I find as an inspiration for my own goals is Elon Musk.
If you want to break out of a slump, then get yourself excited about your goal(s). But Eric, you ask, how do I that when I don’t feel motivated? Well, young grasshopper, it starts with inspiration from others (see above), but you have to take that excitement and build on it. Visualize what it would mean to be successful to you (imagine yourself driving that Tesla) and you'll get excited about your goal. Once you've done that, it’s just a matter of carrying that energy forward and keeping it going. Remember how excited you were when The Last Jedi trailer came out this week, (incase you missed it, here it is)? Focus on building that type of excitement.
Share your goals with your friends, family, coworkers, cat, dog, secret-lovers (maybe that's not so public). None of us like to look bad in front of other people. We will go the extra mile to do something we’ve said publicly. Hold yourself accountable, don’t just commit once, but commit to giving progress updates to everyone every week or so. Don't worry, people won't find your posts annoying like they do when someone posts a picture of their newborn child everyday. Haters gon' hate, but true friends will encourage you throughout your journey.
Block Out Negative Thoughts
It’s important to start monitoring your thoughts. Recognize negative self-talk, which is really what’s causing your slump. After becoming aware of recurring negative thoughts, squash them like a bug and replace them with a corresponding positive thought. Replace, “This is too hard!” with, “I can do this!" But keep it reasonable, just because Usain Bolt ran 100m in under 10 seconds doesn't mean you're going to be the next track star.
Eat Eat Eat!
Most of all, you need to eat. You're going to need to stay focused on your task and not worry about what's for lunch and dinner. You're going to need fuel to power you through the process of becoming that boss b***h you were meant to be. No worries, we have you covered with our handy, ready-to-eat jars. We have the right jar plan to fit with your lifestyle. #BestProductPlugSegwayEver ;)
Turns out when your mom was telling you to eat your spinach, she was giving you great life advice. Like honestly, as if Popeye's massive arms weren't convincing enough already. But we have compiled a list of why you should include some of this leafy green in your diet.
One cup of raw spinach contains:
0.86 grams of protein
30 milligrams of calcium
0.81 grams of iron
24 milligrams of magnesium
167 milligrams of potassium
2,813 micrograms of Vitamin A
58 micrograms of folate
Strengthens Your Heart
A component of spinach, factor C0-Q10 which is an antioxidant, plays an important role in strengthening muscles, especially heart muscles which continuously pump blood to all parts of the body. C0-Q10 can be used to prevent and treat many cardiovascular diseases like hyperlipidemia, heart failure, hypertension and coronary heart disease. Spinach, however, cannot prevent your heart being broken by getting into a bad relationship.
Spinach contains another antioxidant known as alpha-lipoic acid, which has been shown to lower glucose levels, increase insulin sensitivity, and prevent oxidative stress-induced changes in patients with diabetes.
Low intakes of vitamin K have been associated with a higher risk of bone fracture. Consumption of vitamin K is important as it acts as a modifier of bone matrix proteins, improves calcium absorption, and may reduce urinary excretion of calcium. Even though your bones are stronger, attempting that kickflip down 12 flights of stairs is probably still a bad idea.
Spinach contains lutein and zeaxanthin (have fun pronouncing that one). They act as strong antioxidants that prevent the eyes from the harsh effects of UV rays, which can lead to cataracts. Also, they reduce the impact of free radicals, which can be a major cause of cataracts and other eye conditions. However, that doesn't mean that you should look directly into a solar eclipse like certain people..."cough* Trump *cough*.
Key takeaways, spinach is good for you and your mom is always right. Remember when she told you that dating that one person was a bad idea and you did it anyway? Welllll, we can't help you fix your relationship with your mom, but we can help increase your consumption of spinach. Jars like the Chicken Showdown, No-Butter Chickpea, and Cowboy Casserole are packed with spinach.
Want to stay active, but hate going to the gym? If you're bored with running on a treadmill like a hamster in a running wheel, then these alternative activities are perfect for you. Don't worry. These are not fake workouts and chances are that you can find establishments offering them in your area. The best part is that they are perfect as an after work activity, and can double as a social outing with friends.
Yoga poses are great to strengthen and relax the body, however there's a lot more to yoga than that. Derived from the Sankrit word ‘yuj’ which means ‘to unite or integrate’, yoga is a 5,000-year-old Indian body of knowledge. It's all about harmonizing the body with the mind and breath through various breathing exercises and yoga poses. Plus you'll have more flexibility and stamina which, according to Sting, comes in handy during certain activities.
Brazilian Jiu - Jitsu
This hot Brazilian style of martial arts is a form of defence that involves grappling, punching, and submission holds. These workouts not only focus on technique but endurance as well, making this a smart choice for getting in shape and learning some valuable self-defense skills as well. Just remember to get those hands registered as lethal weapons after.
Salsa dancing involves a lot of spontaneous movements that can work a variety of muscles in your body, including the muscles in your legs, hips, and even your arms. Unlike running, salsa dancing does not negatively impact your legs, but it can help you to burn up to ten calories per minute. Plus, you'll learn some wicked moves for that next wedding reception you're attending.
The classic boxer’s training program is an extremely intense regimen with obvious results. Filled with running, crunches, jump rope, and sparring, boxing is a great way to get in shape while blowing off some steam at the same time. Despite what you've seen watching Rocky, drinking raw eggs in the morning and punching large portions of beef in a meat cooler is not required.
Here is What We Like to Do
Neera, our business development manager likes to get active in her own way. She frequently visits Grand River Rocks. She loves indoor rock climbing for many reasons. Neera states that it's more interactive than the gym, and you get a whole body workout while you climb. It also pushes you to your limits, and if you do it with friends, they are the perfect encouragement for you to climb faster and higher.
These activities are sure to make you hungry! Be sure to have some Meal in a Jar handy as well since fitness is only half the battle and nutrition is key.
Celebrate Oktoberfest Meal in a Jar style. This jar is loaded with all of your Oktoberfest favourites, bratwurst sausage, sauerkraut, potato, carrot, cabbage and apple. However, beer is not included :P
